Rae Harvey grew up in the 1960s making her own clothes. Each Saturday, she would creat a new outfit for herself and her cousin Gayle to wear out dancing. As a young mother in the early 70s Rae turned her focus to making matching outfits for her daughters Leanne and Marika.
Today she is part of an advanced sewing club in Canberra with Bonnie, Christine, Virginia, Sue and Beverley, who meet weekly to inspire each other and create together.
Marika Harvey grew up watching her mother at the sewing machine, and soon began hand sewing clothes for her Barbie Doll.
While she is not currently an active part of My Mother and Me, she still loves to source vintage fabric for Rae's work and provide creative input.
